The PV-25 OH Vitamin D product is based on quantitative immunoassay luminescence and based on paramagnetic particles, which is designed for the quantitative measurement of 25 OH Vitamin D in human serum and plasma using the PadinAnalyzer immunoassay analyzer.

The PV-25 OH Vitamin D assay is used to help assess vitamin D adequacy. Vitamin D is a general term used for vitamin D2 or ergocalciferol and D3 or cholecalciferol. Humans naturally produce vitamin D3 when the skin is exposed to the sun's ultraviolet rays.

In the liver, vitamin D3 is mainly metabolized to -25-hydroxyvitamin D3 (25-OH D3), the main form of vitamin D in the body. OH D3-25 is the precursor of other vitamin D metabolites. And in this form, it has limited activity.

The most active derivative is 1,25-hydroxyvitamin D3, which is produced in the kidney (or placenta) by 1-hydroxylation of OH D3-25. OH-25 vitamin D stimulates the intestinal absorption of calcium and phosphorus and their absorption by bones.

Since vitamin D2 is metabolized in a similar way to vitamin D3, both forms have an effect on the overall status of this vitamin in people. This is why both forms of vitamin D should be measured to correctly diagnose vitamin D deficiency, insufficiency and toxicity.

Vitamin D deficiency causes rickets, osteomalacia, senile osteoporosis, cancers and problems during pregnancy.
