Application of Ferritin Elisa 96T kit
The ferritin ELISA kit of Arghvan Teb Kavian Company is designed for the quantitative measurement of ferritin in serum or EDTA plasma. This kit is supplied in a package of 96 tests by Arghvan Teb Kavian Company. Ferritin is a water-soluble protein that, along with insoluble hemosiderin, is a form of iron storage in the body. Its main form consists of a protein shell with a molecular weight of 48 kilodaltons called apoferritin, which consists of an iron hydroxyphosphate core that can accommodate up to 4000 trivalent iron atoms.
Human ferritin in its usual form, which is common to all isoforms, consists of 24 subunits with a molecular weight of 2000 daltons consisting of two different immunological chains, H, acidic, and L, weakly basic. The internal cavity of ferritin is connected with six channels through which divalent iron enters and reacts with the peroxidase center of the H subunit, or after reduction with the help of dihydroflavin or ascorbic acid, which releases ferritin. The basic form of ferritin has the function of long-term storage of iron and can be seen in the liver, spleen and bone marrow.
The acidic isoform of ferritin is found in myocardium, placenta, cancerous tissue and in smaller amounts in spare organs. The small amount of ferritin in the serum contains small amounts of iron and is almost entirely composed of L chain. Each nanogram per milliliter of serum ferritin is equivalent to 10 mg of the body's total iron reserve, and therefore, measuring serum ferritin is the best and most common indicator for evaluating the body's iron reserves and diagnosing iron deficiency and other iron metabolism disorders, and is considered a suitable alternative to invasive aspiration methods. Bone marrow or biopsy, which is actually considered the gold standard for diagnosing iron deficiency anemia.
The measurement of serum ferritin is considered a good indicator for estimating the amount of iron reserves in the body, although it does not indicate the amount of iron available for hematopoiesis. A decrease in ferritin below 15 ng/ml indicates iron deficiency anemia and often occurs following blood loss, decreased iron absorption from the gastrointestinal tract, transferrin deficiency, or increased need (for example, in pregnancy).
It should be noted that ferritin is considered one of the acute phase proteins and its amount increases in cases such as infection, acute and chronic inflammation, or malignant tumors, even despite the simultaneous presence of iron deficiency. An increase in ferritin without any correlation with the amount of iron storage has also been observed in viral and alcoholic hepatitis and chronic renal failure. Therefore, the evaluation of the patient should be done considering the general clinical picture of the patient.
